It’s been a long old road for my skin and I. From as early as 2010 I can remember my brother’s wife (then girlfriend) gifting me skincare for Christmas, after expressing an interest in it.
This grew into a passion, and I began to learn as much as I could about cosmetic science, both from reading papers online to watching skincare ingredient breakdowns from Dr Dray (one of my favourite skincare creators). I was the go-to ‘skin person’ in my work and friend circle, regularly sending product recommendations to colleagues (and their partners) on Whatsapp.
In 2020, the pandemic hit and I decided it was the perfect time to try out a retinoid – something I had long read about but had never been brave enough to use. I took photos of my skin before, during and after. These are photos that I now use in my TikTok videos on a weekly basis, to show people just how effective skincare can be.
After being diagnosed with PCOS in 2021, I finally realised where most of my random skin flareups might be coming from, and I learned about how our diet can impact our skin. I made a bunch of changes which took my relationship with my skin to the next level.
In 2022 I began documenting my skincare journey on TikTok, and within a year grew to over 350,000 followers on the app. I shared everything I learned and experienced about retinoids, as well as PCOS, and I like to think (well, actually I know now) that I have helped people with their own skin along the way.
